Earth Day

2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day! Celebrated every year on April 22nd, Earth Day is considered a day of action in keeping the environment clean.

First started on April 22, 1970 by founder Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day was started in the hopes to raise a global awareness on the importance of preserving our planet and all of its natural resources. Today, Earth Day includes events and observation from more than 193 countries across the globe.

Each year we are encouraged to come together and help make a difference in our environment. With Social Distancing in place this Earth Day, there are still plenty of activities you and your family are able to do to help celebrate this year.

A Few Ideas Include:

  • Plant Trees and Flowers in Your Garden That Invite Pollinators to Come and Visit
  • Start a Vegetable Garden for Your Family, Also Encouraging Healthy Eating
  • Build a Birdhouse or Bird Feeder
  • Build a Bug Hotel
  • Pick Up Trash and Recyclables Around Your Neighborhood When Walking with Your Family
  • Be Mindful and Think of Ways You Can Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rethink Items You May Normally Throw Away
  • And, Don’t Forget to Help and Encourage Other Family, Friends, and Neighbors to Do the Same!

While celebrated once a year, EVERY DAY can be Earth Day if you take the proper steps to help create a cleaner, healthier planet for everyone to enjoy!
